TRE PAWDX 6 Dr Marci Koski 1 Cats Need Play Too! Good morning, afternoon, evening wherever you are in the world right now, this is Amrys Wang of The Raw Entrepawneur! This is a special series called PawdX where speakers share their passion uncensored. Initially PawdX was suppose to be an 18 minute challenge. However, interactions with some guest speakers highlighted a few issues that I did not consider and so out came the second format which is simply just a regular talk with no time limit that speakers can choose to do. Today’s episode is with Dr Marci Koski of Feline Behaviour Solutions. She is a certified feline behavior and training consultant who helps pet parents understand how to communicate with their feline companions and has also worked with the rescue community to help keep cats in homes and out of shelters. Her talk is “Cats Need Play Too!” Dr. Marci is a certified feline behavior and training consultant in Vancouver, Washington. She earned specialized and advanced certificates in Feline Training and Behavior from the Animal Behavior Institute, and established her business, Feline Behavior Solutions, in 2014. She also has a doctorate (PhD) in Fishery and Wildlife Biology from Colorado State University, and worked as a biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for over ten years, where she was involved with the conservation and recovery of threatened and endangered species. Dr. Marci has always loved animals and decided to put her education, talents, and passion to work through the creation of Feline Behavior Solutions. Cats have a special place in her heart, and Dr. Marci has always had at least one cat living with her. She currently relies on her four-member feline support staff (see below) to maintain all the cat-related duties of her household. Dr. Marci is also involved with the local rescue community in Southwest Washington. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Furry Friends, a no-kill cats-only rescue, and volunteers as their cat behavior expert who addresses concerns both in the halfway house, and before and after cats are adopted. Dr. Marci has also worked with the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, where she helped connect under-socialized cats with inmates at a nearby minimum-security prison. Marci visited the prison every two weeks to teach the inmates about cat behavior and help them socialize cats (with whom they lived until the cats were socialized); the cats were then adopted out to forever homes through the Humane Society. You can learn more about this unique and rewarding program by watching this video. Dr. Marci’s primary mission for Feline Behavior Solutions is to keep cats in homes and out of shelters. Dr. Marci believes that the number of cats who are abandoned and/or euthanized in shelters can be significantly reduced if guardians better understand cat behavior, and learn how to work with their cats to encourage desired behaviors instead of unwanted ones. Cats are amazing animals and there's nothing so rewarding as earning the love and companionship of a cat in your family. Through Feline Behavior Solutions, Dr. Marci teaches guardians how cats and their people can live their best lives together. https://felinebehaviorsolutions.com https://www.facebook.com/FelineBehaviorSolutions The Raw Entrepawneur: https://www.facebook.com/TheRawEntrepawneur https://www.instagram.com/therawentrepawneur
