Welcome to The Raw Entrepawneur’s Season 1 episode 67! Good morning, afternoon, evening wherever you are in the world right now, this is Amrys Wang of The Raw Entrepawneur! Today’s episode is with Dr Emily Yunker - a creative thinker and problem solver, holistic mother, herbalist, integrative vet who also does emergency veterinary medicine and who believes that everything is figureoutable! She is an inspiration to others as she makes conscious decisions in how she and her family live their lives in the most meaningful and authentic way possible. This is her story. Dr Emily Taylor Yunker Bio: Dr. Emily Taylor Yunker holds a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University. She is a veterinary clinical herbalist and is the Integrative Medicine Service within “The Veterinary Rehabilitation Hospital at Quartet” in Cary, North Carolina. She also explores topics of holistic health more broadly on her blog and website holisticmomvet.com. Dr. Yunker has been interested in herbal medicine, nutrition, and holistic health for over 20 years, inspired by seeing family members work with complementary modalities to manage chronic diseases. One of her biggest influences and motivations has been her own rescue kitten, “Miri the Wondercat”. Miri was rescued by a good Samaritan and eventually adopted by Dr. Yunker (as a veterinary assistant) after surviving severe respiratory and gastrointestinal disease. Dr. Yunker was determined to give this sick kitten the best shot at a healthy immune system and as long a life as possible, even with such an unlikely start. This was her first case study in the use of herbs and natural diet to restore health and vitality. The experience not only gave Dr. Yunker a lifelong companion, but also a wealth of knowledge about the utilization of natural medicine in real life application. Dr. Yunker went on to pursue graduate studies and laboratory research in herbs and biomedical science. Before completing that program she shifted focus and went to veterinary school, graduating from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. During her time at Auburn, Dr. Yunker created a student club to foster relationships with holistic veterinary practitioners and herbalists and pursued specific course work focusing on alternative modalities. She studied with Dr. Barbara Fougere, author of the “Veterinary Herbal Medicine” textbook, as well as with Susun Weed, a leader in holistic health and herbal knowledge. She completed a comprehensive certification course in Western Veterinary Herbal Medicine through Purple Moon Herbs and Studies in 2017-2019. Dr. Yunker is now offering complementary care utilizing a holistic approach to pet health, integrating a biologically appropriate diet, herbs, and supplements, along with conventional pharmaceuticals and diagnostics. Later this year Dr. Yunker will complete her training in rehabilitation to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT).
